At the Farm Gate – Agricultural Services

Binn Group has enhanced its commitment to the agricultural community with the appointment of Ian Flaherty (pictured) as Agriculture and Commodities Manager.

This dedicated post has already resulted in a substantial increase in both the collection of waste from the industry and the sale of environmentally friendly livestock bedding.

“The agriculture sector generates a significant quantity of plastic and polythene from poly tunnels, silage wrap, old tyres used as cover weighting and feed product bags,” said Ian. “Binn Group can provide a comprehensive waste collection and recycling service for all farmers, ensuring they are compliant with all regulations.”

In addition to providing and uplifting a wide range of waste collection vessels and lorries to farms, Binn Group is able to offer a cheaper bedding alternative to straw.

“With straw proving so pricey at the moment, our recycled wood fines bedding is proving a cheaper and more sustainable alternative,” said Ian. “We’re now delivering loose loads of the product as far afield as Aberdeenshire and the Borders.”

Ian joined Binn Group after 10 years with recycling solutions company D J Laing, latterly as General Manager. Prior to that, he worked in the agriculture industry for over 20 years, having studied it at university.

Born in Aberdeenshire but raised and settled in Perthshire, Ian brings a wealth of industry knowledge to the recently-created post at Binn Group.

“It’s an exciting and challenging role,” he said. “It’s a job that throws up something different every day. The world of waste management is forever changing and the way agriculture sector deals with it is changing apace.”
