Charity golfers tee up support for air ambulance

Binn enjoy Golf Day

Golfers from across the country have helped to raise around £15,000 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance at the fun-filled Balvaird Charity Golf Day organised by Glenfarg-based Binn Group.

The Shotgun start Stableford competition, sponsored by the Skene Group, was staged over Rosemount Golf Course, home to this month’s Junior Ryder Cup.

Nineteen teams enjoyed a round on the prestigious course before a meal in the clubhouse and entertainment from Fife footballing legend and Provost Jim Leishman. A raffle and auction featuring prizes donated from friends and colleagues of Binn Group also helped boost the charity.

SCAA head of fundraising Sally Cameron hailed the day “an outstanding success” and thanked all who supported the event as well as father and son, John and Allan MacGregor, of Binn Group for choosing the frontline emergency helicopter service as their nominated charity.

“Everyone who contributed in any way to the day has helped to keep SCAA flying and delivering its vital service in time-critical emergencies,” she said. “The charity owes a huge debt of gratitude to Binn Group and all their contacts and supporters for raising such an outstanding sum.”

Binn Group Chief Executive Allan MacGregor said the company was delighted to support SCAA, pointing out that the country’s only charity-funded helicopter air ambulance was a vital resource for the whole country.

“Binn Group is based in a rural setting and we often have operatives working in remote and isolated areas,” he explained. “We see the value of a helicopter air ambulance that is capable of reaching and transporting casualties from such locations in time-critical situations and are therefore happy to play our part in raising funds to keep this amazing charity flying.”

Allan also expressed his profound thanks to all the companies and individuals who had supported Binn Group in pulling together such a successful and enjoyable event.

“We are extremely grateful to all those who sponsored the event and individual holes, entered teams and provided auction and raffle prizes,” he said. “Every bit of support helped secure a great day for all and a substantial support for a very worthwhile charity. Thank you to everyone.”

The winning team at the Balvaird Charity Golf Day was First Independent Finance captained by Robin Duncan.

Second was the Bank of Scotland captained by Alistair Connolly and third place honours went to the GS Group captained by Alan Ruthven.

Nearest the pin accolade was won by Scott Bowman playing for Gillespie Macandrew, while St Johnstone FC’s Callum Davidson powered home the longest drive.
