Third picking station commissioned

Binnwaste Management have installed a third picking station at their Glenfarg recycling complex.

The £300,000 investment gives one of the country's largest independent waste management companies the capacity to process an extra 2,000 tonnes of waste per month at Binn Farm.

The Kiverco picking station was commissioned in May and saw a further five employees join the Binnwaste Management workforce - four pickers and a machine operator.

HMRC

HMRCHer Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has announced two changes to the rules governing Landfill Tax.

In a statement issued on May 18, HMRC outlined plans to impose tax on material used for overlying layers for topping off Landfill cells.

In addition, fines from recycling processes, grit and screenings will no longer be eligible for the lower £2.50 rate of Landfill Tax applied to inert material and must be charged the full rate of £64 a tonne. (see full brief at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/excise-duty/brief1512.htm).

Following the recent announcement re. the above, Binnwaste Management is introducing new procedures as to how they process materials that previously went to landfill as “inert” to ensure compliance with HMRC new regulations.

Binn Skips help put on a great show

Perthshire waste management experts Binn Skips plan to help Perth Show celebrate this summer’s landmark anniversary in style.

The Binn Farm based business has signed up as key sponsors for the 150th anniversary show taking place at Perth’s South Inch on August 3 and 4.

Binn Skips chairman John McGregor is one of Perth Show’s 10 vice presidents following a long association with the event. He explained why they were keen to add their support to this special anniversary event.

“Binn Skips have been proud to be associated with Perth Show over many years and have been main sponsors for the past five years. We’re delighted to come on board again as leading sponsors for this 150th anniversary event,” he said.

“Perth Show is a key feature on both the city’s and the agricultural community’s calendar and as farmers and businesspeople we realise its importance to the local community, the local economy, tourism and farming.
