Binn Group has appointed a new director to the board. Forty-five-year-old Stewart Smith has been appointed Director of Operations after 15 years with the waste management company.
Binn Group Chief Executive Allan MacGregor first persuaded his old schoolfriend Stewart to join the fledgling company in 2003 as a lorry driver when the then Binn Skips operated less than half a dozen vehicles.
“I told him I would give 100 percent to help grow the business,” recalled Stewart. “Everyone did – and things just got busier and busier.”
Stewart latterly served as Operations Manager, with a wealth of experience in the business behind him. It is that operations awareness and practical knowledge that Stewart now brings to the Binn Group board.
“I’m very proud and privileged to be asked to sit beside Allan as a Director of his company,” he said. “It’s an exciting time to join the board with several new projects just starting and a clearly defined future vision ahead of us.”
Stewart will oversee all transport, trade waste, workshops, weighbridge, SRF and recycling yards elements of the business – a major role for a director.
“I want to prove worthy of the confidence shown in me by doing the job justice,” he said. “I also want to work for the 110 people or so I will be responsible for – as much as they will be working for me. To ensure their working life at Binn Group is as safe, enjoyable and rewarding as mine has been.”
